RRB Non-Technical Popular Category Exam conducted by Railway Recruitment Boards basically comprises of the following subjects:

General English:

Mathematics:

General Knowledge:

Candidates are expected to possess a broad knowledge of current events and matters of general interest, particularly related to India, including Indian Railways. 

General Intelligence:

Who's Who, Sports, Entertainment, Indian History and Geography, Discoveries and Inventions. Elementary Knowledge of Computers.

RRB NTPC Selection Procedure Stages

Common Online Exam: Over lakh of candidates appeared for Common Online Exam. The Computer Based Test (CBT) consisted of objective type questions from General Awareness, Arithmetic and General Intelligence and Reasoning. The candidates to be considered for the next stage will have to score the desired cutoff decided by RRB.  

Aptitude Test/Skill Test:

The candidates, who secure their position in the merit list of RRB NTPC Written Examination, will be called to appear for Skill Test/ Aptitude Test.

CA, ECRC, Goods Guard & TA – There are no further round for the candidates who have appeared for CA, ECRC, Good Guard & TA. The candidates who have qualified the online test and have scored good marks will be called for document verification. Subsequently after document verification, the candidates will be provided appointment.

Sr. Clerk cum typist, Junior Account Assistant, and Sr. Time Keeper

Candidates who qualify the online written examination will be called for Typing/Skill Test. Candidates equal to 8 times the no of vacancies will be called to appear for a typing skill test. Typing Test does not carry any marks but they will have to qualify. Candidates should be able to type 30 words per minute in English or 25 WPM in Hindi. The words are to be typed on Computer. Failing in this test will lead to disqualification to join JAA, Sr. Clerk or Sr Time Keeper. A merit list of candidates who qualify in the typing test will be prepared also considering the marks of written examination. Only those individuals can appear for document verification.

ASM and Traffic Assistant: The candidates under this post will have to qualify the Common online test to be considered for next level. The candidates to appear for aptitude test will be equal to 8 times the vacancies existing for these positions. Marks are to be awarded in this test and hence scoring good marks in addition to qualifying is necessary. No weightage of 70 % (CBT marks) and 30 % (aptitude marks) will be taken in drawing the merit list for ASM and Traffic Assistant jobs.

Medical Test: After document verification, appointment will be given to the candidates only after successful completion of medical test. Selected candidates shall satisfy certain criteria:

  • Selected candidates must satisfy certain vision standards
  • There are specific distance and near readings

Medical examination happens only at the final stage, any rejection here will make the candidates ineligible for all jobs.

  • Selection is made strictly according to merit on the basis of CBT/Online Exam and Aptitude Test, Typing Skill Test.
  • Based on the performance in the CBT/Online exam and Aptitude Test/Typing Skill Test candidates equal to the number of vacancies are called for documentation in the main list.
