NIFT Entrance Exam Pattern
NIFT Entrance Exam consist of objective multiple choice type of question carrying one marks each with negative marking at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer. The test will be in two different stages as given below:

Situation Test
Shortlisted candidates for B.Des. from the written entrance examination are required to undergo a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials.
No additional material will be provided / allowed.
Model will be evaluated on Space Visualization, Innovative and creative use of given material, composition of elements, colour scheme, construction skill , finesse of the model and overall presentation etc. These parameters will be checked with the write up explaining the concept / idea behind the model constructed. The weightage of the write up is 30%. Since the medium of teaching in NIFT is English, the write-up will be in English language. No marks will be given for write-up in any other language.
Group Discussion
Shortlisted candidates for Masters Programs from the written entrance examination are required to undergo Case Study based Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). GD would comprise of approximately 15 to 20 minutes of discussion on a case study assigned, on which a panel of experts will assess the candidates on the following parameters:

NIFT Entrance Exam Syllabus
NIFT Entrance Exam comprises of the following given papers and Personality test of such candidates who qualify on the basis of the written examination.
1. General Ability Test (GAT)
Quantitative Ability
It consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, Distance, Profit & Loss, Algebra and Geometry, etc. of the level of matriculation.
For Bachelor programme in Technology
Consists of questions on Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, and Fundamentals of Computer Applications.
For Master programme in Technology
Consists of questions on Differential Calculus, Integral
Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Linear
Programming, Fundamentals of Computer Applications, Production Engineering,
etc. of the level of graduation.
Communication Ability
It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with
corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and
phrases, correct spellings, etc.
English Comprehension
This is to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.
Analytical Ability
It is designed to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation
from a given passage.
Market Domain-Test (only for Bachelor programme in Design)
This test is aimed to evaluate the candidate's knowledge and
awareness about the Fashion Industry, Designers, knowledge in the field of Art
& Culture.
General Knowledge and Current Affairs (for bachelors and masters
programmes in technology & management programmes) –
This test is designed to test the candidates general knowledge
and current affairs.
2. Creative Ability Test (CAT) (for Bachelor programme in Design)
This test is taken to test the skill, power of observation, innovation and design
ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the candidate’s
usage of colour and illustration.
3. Managerial Ability Test (MAT)
Case Study
It is based on a situation of an industry environment. It helps to evaluate the candidate's managerial ability.
Business Domain Test
It is to judge the knowledge of a candidate on fundamentals of
textiles, apparel industry, import and export sectors, WTO issues related to
textiles, apparel brands, etc.
Logical Ability
It is aimed to evaluate the candidate’s ability to identify the logic or reason involved in a particular problem given and applying the logic in solving the problem. Concepts and practice of creative and lateral thinking are likely to be useful.

NIFT Entrance Exams Selection Process
The Qualified candidates in the written test will be invited for
1. Situation Test (only for Design programme)
Shortlisted candidates from the written entrance examination are required to undergo a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials.
2. Psychometric Test (for
master’s programmes in technology & management programmes)
This is an assessment test that measures the general competencies. The
competencies measured fall into two groups : Task Oriented and People Oriented
Competencies. This assessment test measures both the task and people oriented
competencies.
3. Group Discussion
During Group Discussions of nearly 10-15 minutes a panel of experts will assess the candidate’s Conceptual clarity his/her Knowledge of the topic assigned, Interpersonal skills, Ability to generate new ideas along with his/her Problem solving approach and Leadership qualities.
4. Personal Interview
In this aspect of the candidate’s selection process the candidate is tested on the various parameters like,Career orientation, Aptness for the field, Overall personality traits along with General awareness and aptitude.
