PCS (Judicial) Exam Eligibility
1. Educational Qualification
Aspiring candidates must possess a degree of Bachelor of Laws from a University
established by the law and approved/recognized by the Bar Council of India. The
expression “Degree of Bachelor of Laws” means a degree entitling a candidate to
be enrolled as an Advocate under the Advocate Act, 1961, and the rules made
there under.
Important: The candidate should hold a degree of Bachelor of Law on the last date of receipt of application form i.e. 25th Feb, 2017.
Punjabi upto Matric or
its equivalent standard.
2. Age
The candidate should not be less than 21 years and not more than 37 years
as on 25th Feb, 2017.
1. The upper age limit for a candidate belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes of all States and Backward Classes of Punjab only shall be up to 42 years.
2. Upper age limit is relaxable upto 47 years for all States/ Central Government employees.
3. Ex-serviceman Domiciled in Punjab shall be allowed to deduct the period of theirservice in the Armed Forces of the Union from their actual age and if the resultant agedoes not exceed the maximum age limit prescribed for direct appointment to such avacancy in the Service Rules concerned by more than three years, they shall be deemedto satisfy the condition regarding age limit.
4. Upper age is also relaxable up to 42 years for Widows, Divorcees and certain othercategories of Women.
5. Upper age limit is also relaxable upto 47 years for Physically Handicapped Persons who have domicile of Punjab
Nationality
Candidate must be
1. Citizen of India or
2. A citizen of Nepal, or
3. A subject of Bhutan or
4. A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly-Tranganyika and Zanzibar) Zabia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Govt. of India.
A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be provisionally admitted to the examination conducted by the Selection Committee on his furnishing proof that he has applied for the certificate but the offer of appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Govt. of India.
PCS (Judicial) Exam Pattern
The PCS (Judicial) exam will consist of three stages ie.
Stage 1 - Preliminary Exam:
The Preliminary Examination shall be of objective type with multiple-choice questions as given below:

For wrong answer 0.20% i.e. 1/5th mark shall be deducted.
Imp: No candidate shall be allowed to appear in the Main Examination unless he / she secured minimum 150 marks (100 marks for all reserved category candidates) in the Preliminary Examination. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination shall not be counted towards final result.
Candidates equal to 10 times the number of vacancies advertised, selected in order of their merit in the respective categories shall become eligible to sit in the Main Examination. However, the number shall be subject to variation.
If two or more candidates at the last number (the number at the end) get the equal marks, then all of them shall be considered eligible to sit for the Main Examination, warranting the corresponding increase in the stipulated ratio.
A candidate who qualifies for the Main Examination will have to apply again on separate application form for Main Examination. The qualified candidates will have to obtain Application Form for the Main Examination from the Commission’s office on any working day.

To judge the personal qualities of the candidates. The viva-voce shall relate to the matters of general interest and is intended to test the candidates’ alertness, intelligence and general outlook. it shall be conducted in English. |

Important:
- Main Examination will be subjective/narrative type. Main Examination will be conducted in English Medium except for language paper.
- Bare copies of legislative enactments only shall be supplied.
- The standard of the language paper shall be that of Matriculation Examination of the Board of School Education, Haryana.
Note: Candidate who qualifies for the Main Examination will have to apply again on separate application form for the Main Examination. The qualified candidates will have to obtain Application Form for the Main Examination from the Commission’s office.
No. candidate shall be credited with any marks in any paper unless he obtains at least thirty three percent marks in it.
No candidate shall be called for the viva- voce unless he obtains at least fifty percent qualifying marks in the aggregate of all the written papers. However, for the candidate belonging to the scheduled Caste and Backward Classes the qualifying marks for this purpose shall be 45%.
Stage 3 - Vica Voca
1. Candidates thrice the number of posts in order of merit of Main Examination will be called for viva-voce.
2. The Viva-Voce shall carry 100 marks and final result shall be prepared on the basis of the grand Total of the marks obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination and the Viva-Voce.
3. No candidate shall be called for the Viva-Voce unless he obtains at least 50% qualifying marks in the aggregate of all the written papers and qualifies in language paper Punjabi (Gurmukhi Script). The candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes of Punjab and Backward Classes of Punjab shall be called for the Viva-Voce test if they obtain 45% qualifying marks in the aggregate of all written papers and qualify in Language Paper Punjabi (Gurmukhi Script).
4. No candidate shall be considered to have qualified unless he/she obtains 50% marks (read 45% marks for the SC/BC category candidates) in aggregate out of the total marks of the written examination and viva-voce.
5. The Viva-Voce shall relate to matters of general interest and is intended to test the candidate's alertness intelligence and general outlook. It shall be conducted in English.
PCS (Judicial) Exam Number of Attempts
As per the Punjab Recruitment of Ex-servicemen Rules, 1982, Ex-servicemen candidates are permitted only three attempts at the examination and appearing in even one paper only shall be deemed to be an attempt at the examination. Ex-servicemen candidates should clearly mention in the relevant column of the Application Form the number of chances already availed i.e. zero, one, two or three.
PCS (Judicial) Exam Syllabus
- PCS (Judicial) Preliminary Exam Syllabus:
PCS (Judicial) Exam will consists of questions from the Preliminary Examination shall be from the syllabus for the Main Examination.
- PCS (Judicial) Main Exam Syllabus:
PCS(Judicial) Main exam consists of questions from the main subjects of Law besides questions on current events of national and international importance, Indian legal and constitutional history and governance. The candidate shall also be tested for his analytical skills and aptitude. The standard of the question paper shall be of Law graduate level.
How to apply for PCS (Judicial) Exam?
Aspiring Candidates can ONLY apply by filling Online Application Form, a link of which is available on the official website of the Commission www.ppsc.gov.in
The printout of the filled Online Application Form alongwith demand draft and relevant documents must reach the office of Secretary, Punjab Public Service Commission on or before the closing date.
The list of self attested certificates that shall be submitted by candidates alongwith the print out of Online Application Form is as follows:
1. Proof of Date of Birth Certificate of Matriculation/Higher Secondary.
2. Proof of having passed Punjabi Language.
3. Degree Certificate.
4. Detail Marks Card of all years/ Semesters.
5. Reserve Category Certificate issued by the Competent Authority(If Applicable)
6. Proof of being Govt. Employee. ( If Applicable)
7. If ESM. (Date of enrolment and Date of release/discharge)
8. Certificate as proof of age relaxation claim. (If Applicable)
9. Bank Draft.
The Candidates Shall sign the declaration on Page No.2 of the print out of Online Application Form before submitting the same.

Note: The candidates entitled to examination fee concession/exemption MUST submit with their Application Form, self attested copy of the certificate certifying their claim for fee concession/exemption. Candidates who do not submit such a certificate shall not be entitled to examination fee concession/exemption under any circumstances.
The Examination fee must be submitted alongwith the print out of Online Application Form duly signed by the candidate. The Examination fee shall be in the form of SINGLE Demand Draft in original issued by a branch of State Bank of India or State Bank of Patiala, drawn in favour of the Secretary, Punjab Public Service Commission, payable at Patiala. The Application Forms received without a valid Bank Demand Draft or with inadequate examination fee shall be summarily rejected. The examination fee is non refundable.
Candidate must write his/her Post Applied For, Registration Number, Name and Address in BLOCK LETTERS on the reverse of the Bank Demand Draft.
