Assistant Commandant Eligibility

1. Educational Qualification for Assistant Commandant

To be eligible for becoming an Assistant Commandant one should hold a Bachelor’s degree in any stream. Those appearing in the final year exam of their degree course are also eligible to apply, subject to their qualifying in the exam.

Possession of NCC 'B' or 'C' certificate or outstanding sports or athletic certificate is an added qualification.

2. Age

  • The candidate must have attained the age of 19 years on 1st July of the year of examination and must not have attained 25 years of age on that date.
  • Relaxation in upper age limit for SC/ ST candidates by 5 years and for OBC by 3 years

3. Physical Standards:

For Male-

  • Height - 165 cms
  • Chest - 81 cms unexpanded (with 5 cms minimum expansion)
  • Weight            - Proportionate to height
  • Eye sight - Refer to the official notification for specific details.

For Female-

  • Height - 157 cms
  • Weight - Proportionate to height but not less than 46 kgs
  • Eye sight - Refer to the official notification for specific detail

How to become an Assistant Commandant ?

To become an Assistant Commandant one has to follow the below given steps:

Step 1

As a first step the aspirant has to procure the “Application Form” along with required information from the employment newspaper generally published in the month of April. Send the filled Application form to the regional centres as mentioned.

Step 2

Aspirants have to take the Written Exam (Central Police Force Exam - CPFE). Carrying 300 marks, in the following subjects:

Part I

Intelligence test and general knowledge
(GK, Intelligence & Reasoning and Numerical ability) 

200 marks

Part II   

Essay writing, precise writing and Comprehension of a given passage.

100 marks

Note: Essay in Hindi or English while Precise writing and Comprehension of a given passage etc. in English only.
All the candidates who qualify in the written test would be called for physical efficiency tests (PET), which would be qualifying in nature.

Step 3

Failure even in one item of this test amounts to disqualification. In items, (iii), (iv) & (v), three chances are given to candidates while item (v) is not applicable to Female candidates.

The candidates who qualify the P.E.T. are called for interview and medical examination.

Part III

Interview (Personality test) carrying 200 marks.

Step 5

Required number of candidates would be appointed from the final merit list to the various organizations (BSF, CRPF, and ITBP) as per the availability of posts and keeping in view the preferences given by the candidates.

Assistant Commandant Job Prospects

Job prospects for the Assistant commandant vary according to the force they have joined like in ITBP the hierarchy of the post is as given below:

Assistant Commandant gets promotion to the rank of:

  • Deputy Commandant after 6 years of service
  • Second-in-Command after 11 years in service
  • Commandant after 15 years of the service

The promotional prospects are bright and officers can reach up to the level of Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General.

Assistant Commandant Salary

An Assistant Commandant gets the pay scale of Rs. 15,600 to Rs. 39,100. The Government of India has fixed salary grades for its employees at various posts. The pay scales however, keep on changing with new pay commission.

Note: The above scales only provide an idea of the pay scales. Different branches of the service have different scales of pay. Even personnel of same branches may have different pay according to their area of posting and responsibility they are holding at a particular time.
